What is Quartz
Quartz is a chemical compound known as silicon dioxide. Quartz primarily comes from molten magma but it also is found in metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. As magma cools, the silicon dioxide is allowed to crystalize, like water turning into ice. Another common way Quartz is formed is by chemically precipitating from hot hydrothermal veins. This produces gangue and is sometimes accompanied with ore minerals like gold, silver, and copper.
Quartz is the most abundant mineral found at the Earth's surface. It is also the most useful natural substances due to its very unique properties. It is extremely resistant to weathering, vibrates at a precise frequency, and is heat resistant. It is used for a variety of things; glass, electronics, clocks, sand, sandpaper/abrasive material, refractory bricks, and filler in rubber, paint and putty. Quartz vibrational frequencies are so precise that the crystals can be used to make extremely accurate instruments that can transmit radio and television signals with specific and stable frequencies.
Popular varieties of quartz are Amethyst, Ametrine, Citrine, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz, Jasper, and Aventurine.
