Leopard Jasper

What is Leopard Jasper

A speckled, spotted leopard jasper (also known as jaguar stone) is a form of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) that can form in chert as well as within volcanic ash. In both scenarios, bits of silica coalesce over time bringing with them other elements that get taken into and encased within the crystal lattice. These impurities (although not impure to us) are what causes the brilliant array of colors found in jaspers. The speckles of leopard jasper are nuclei of such coalescing material, each growing until encountering her neighbor crystal. You can find her in such places as Brazil, Mexico, some regions in Africa, and Sedona Moonstone wraps.
